Talk about making an entrance. New Yorker Zaldy scored his biggest designing coup to date on Sunday night, dressing Christina Aguilera for the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. The chanteuse donned what Zaldy likes to call the “ultimate skirt-belt.” He put together the gothic, spangled leather garter belt ensemble with Aguilera’s stylist Andrea Lieberman. The designer, who’s outfitted J.Lo and Gwen Stefani for concerts, recently presented his fall collection in New York, which included dramatic flowing shirtdresses and natural knit pieces.
But now that the Winter Games are heading to Torino, the Italians are pulling out their heavy-hitters. At Sunday’s closing, they staged a mini preview with looks from Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. Which begs the question: Who’s going to design their Olympic uniforms in 2006?
