These days, some designers, such as Giorgio Armani, think of cruise collections as pre-spring, or even pre-fall, essentially a look ahead.

NEW YORK — Giorgio Armani, a master of beading and embroidery, is continuing to embellish for cruise. Borrowing from couture techniques, the designer is creating delicate motifs on everything from day jackets to wispy dresses — and it all works in a fresh, young way.
