LOS ANGELES — A former Dallas Market Center executive is returning to familiar territory, taking the top management post at the California Market Center here.

Real estate management veteran Paul R. Lentz has been tapped as general manager of CMC, a new position responsible for overseeing leasing, operations and marketing for the combined apparel and gift-and-home venue.

Starting June 17, Lentz will report to Bill Winsor, president and chief executive of the Market Center Management Co., which runs CMC and the Dallas Market Center. Winsor and Lentz were colleagues in the Seventies, when Lentz ran leasing operations for DMC and served as a trustee. Following his years with DMC, Lentz served as Western regional president of Transwestern, which manages 32 million square feet of commercial real estate.

Winsor said Lentz’s top priorities will be increasing buyer traffic and integrating the building’s separate tenant bases; currently, half the building’s three million square feet is apparel showrooms and half slated for gift-and-home.

“The intent is still to create a combined management team under Paul, with staff with the ability to cross over and work in both industries,” said Cindy Morris, MCMC’s chief operating officer.

According to Winsor, Lentz will reposition existing staff as well as hire to fill gaps in retail development and marketing. Morris and Winsor have retained a search firm to find a replacement for Trish Moreno, executive director of creative marketing who resigned recently.

The building will continue to have two separate tenant-run boards of governors, one for apparel and the other for gift-and-home. According to Morris, ad campaigns will be specific to each category, but other marketing materials, such as calendars and mailers, will cross-promote the categories.”
