NEW YORK — Some 1,300 people came out to honor Carol Meyrowitz, president of The Mermaxx Group, and executive vice president of The TJX Cos., as the recipient of the Needlers’ Foundation “2004 Woman of the Year” award.
Soledad O’Brien, anchor of CNN’s “American Morning,” served as master of ceremonies at the gala dinner and benefit held March 24 at the Waldorf Astoria. Ted English, president and chief executive officer of The TJX Cos., was chairman of the event.
The Needlers, a philanthropic organization founded 35 years ago by a group of apparel executives, benefits children in need.
The event raised $2.5 million, which will go to the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Beth Israel Hospital Medical Center in New York and Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, according to Jack Weinstock, president of corporate brands at Intertex Apparel Group and president of the Needlers, who served as the event’s honorary chairman.
