NEW YORK — Even after the hot dogs and pretzels ran out, the crowd of 700 wouldn’t budge from the front of Lord & Taylor. They were riveted to the rock sounds of the Current Affair band ’til the very end of L&T’s big block party last Thursday night launching Father’s Day windows that celebrate the 50th anniversary of Corvette and Gibson Guitars. Security guards worked hard to break up the crowd spilling onto Fifth Avenue, enabling the sleek red 2003 Corvette to pull up to the store. The crowd was divided between gazing at the 2003 anniversary convertible and the leggy model perched atop the backseat.
Inside all L&T stores nationwide are Corvette outposts selling logo-laden gifts, like T-shirts, clocks, umbrellas and various memorabilia. L&T’s Fifth Avenue windows display a variety of the cars and guitars, including a Lenny Kravitz 1967 Flying V signature model; a shiny red Gibson custom-carved guitar rounded to match a side body vent on the Corvette, and a vintage white 1953 convertible. L&T also juxtaposes some sporty men’s wear with the automobiles.
