NEW YORK — Peter D. Arnold, executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, is heading to John Varvatos Enterprises Inc. as president, effective in August. He will report to chairman and chief executive officer Varvatos, who formerly also held the title of president.
Arnold, 46, joined the CFDA four years ago, replacing Fern Mallis, who went to IMG as vice president and executive director of Seventh on Sixth. He was considered a bold choice for the organization — his background was not in fashion or public relations, but in law. He had been a partner at the law firm Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP, specializing in corporate transactions.
At John Varvatos, Arnold will be in charge of the day-to-day operation of the business, handling the financial end, as well as working on its strategic growth.
Varvatos serves on the CFDA’s board of directors. He won the Perry Ellis men’s wear award in 2000, the CFDA men’s wear designer of the year award in 2001, and this month picked up the 2005 CFDA men’s wear designer of the year award.
