For his sophomore outing, Colton Dane sent out a sophisticated lineup of day-to-evening clothes for the working woman. Somewhat of an anomaly in the Los Angeles fashion scene, the 22-year-old designer, a former child actor, designs for the mature, East Coast customer and deals in hand-finished details and luxe touches such as 24-karat-gold-plated zippers. The 25 looks shown included his take on the power suit, in navy bi-stretch polyester that he also used for a sleeveless jumpsuit and flirty salsa skirt; fitted cropped tops and skirts in custom-made tweed and brocade; and, for evening, hand-pleated chiffon gowns.

Determined to build the nascent brand’s profile at retail, Dane and his business partner, former fund analyst Charles Christopher, have signed on with sales showrooms in Dallas, New York and Atlanta and hired Los Angeles-based celebrity seeding consultant Janey Lopatey, who worked with Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor when they founded Juicy Couture.
