Assad Jebara, president of New York-based Alpha, which also produces Zana-di and is launching the Request line, said the two parties agreed to end their deal at the end of September.
“It wasn’t the right fit for us,” Jebara said. “We made a settlement and walked away.”
He said terms of the settlement limited the amount of information the companies could disclose.
A spokesman at Jill Stuart confirmed that the line, which had launched for the spring 2001 retail season, had been discontinued. He said the company would consider other options, but for now was incorporating more denim looks into its core collection.
