LONDON — The second Digital Fashion Week Singapore, which runs from Nov. 1 to 4 in the Southeast Asian country, will collaborate with the British Council and have a British theme, as organizers seek to celebrate connection between the British fashion industry and Singapore.
The British Council is the U.K.’s cultural relations organization, whose global projects center around the arts. “We’re very pleased to support Digital Fashion Week in their efforts to encourage and nurture home-grown designers, many of whom studied or took up internships in the U.K. before launching their own brands in Singapore,” Antony Phillipson, British High Commissioner to Singapore, said. “This event is, therefore, both a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strength of the U.K./Singapore fashion partnership and a fabulous stage for some of the most exciting designers in the world to show off their talent.” He added, “Fashion is one of the U.K.’s most vibrant and creative industries, contributing more than 21 billion pounds a year to the U.K. economy.” RELATED STORY: Bloomingdale's Launching 'Brit Style' >>
The interactive event is partnered with technology giants including Google+, YouTube and Twitter, and works with Asos.com, through which consumers around the world can make instant purchases straight from the runway via Asos Marketplace as they watch the live-streamed runway shows. Daily interviews live from backstage will be streamed on Google+, with viewers invited to interact across the event’s social platforms.
"Dressing the Screen: The Rise of Fashion film," billed as the first fashion film exhibition in Singapore, has been curated by filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson as a fringe event and will run in the lead-up to Digital Fashion Week. More than 20 films from the last 75 years are to be featured, including ones by Nick Knight, Quentin Jones, Vivienne Westwood, Henry Holland and Sølve Sundsbø.
