Elle.com on Jan. 7 unveiled a new online store, Elle Shop, in conjunction with Saks Fifth Avenue.
Elle.com editors are picking two items to be showcased on the site daily, Monday through Friday, culminating in a display of 10 items each Friday. One piece chosen each day will be a “staple” item, along classic lines, while the other “statement” item will tend toward the trendy. Shoppers who click on an item they want to purchase at Elle Shop are transported to SaksFifthAvenue.com, where they can place their order. Inventory management and fulfillment, as well as order processing, are being managed by Saks Fifth Avenue.
Merchandise offerings will range from women’s apparel and accessories to beauty products. For instance, nude, mid-calf Jimmy Choo boots, retailing for $750, qualify as a “staple” at the new cybershop while black, open-side Calvin Klein shoe boots, on sale for $261, rate as a “statement.”
According to Emma Starr, senior editor of Elle.com, the joint venture “gives Elle.com readers the opportunity to view and purchase the season’s latest looks as recommended by its editors. Our relationship with Saks solidifies our commitment to provide a comprehensive online fashion experience.”
Denise Incandela, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Saks Direct, told WWD, “We’re looking for partners where there’s a complementary relationship. We share similar customers [with Elle.com] and think we can add to both of our Web site experiences by joining forces.”
In an effort to attract visitors, the site is sponsoring a lottery of sorts. Visitors will be able to sign up for a random drawing, with the winner slated to receive a $2,500 gift certificate to be redeemed at any Saks Fifth Avenue store or at the Saks Web site.
