It won’t be Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren — both of whom considered the spot — filling the retail quarters in Andre Balasz’s Mercer Hotel when and if it opens in SoHo this spring. J. Crew Retail has secured the spot, which is just across the street from where Prada is scheduled to open a Miu Miu unit in April. It will be the second Crew store in New York. In addition to the standard J. Crew tailoring, the new store will carry the more upscale J. Crew Collection. It was launched in 1992, but has not yet been available in New York.
