Just about the only flashy person not to buy a Miami showplace is the Sultan of Brunei. And contrary to rumor, the multibillionaire Sultan isn’t adding Paris to his extensive list of second residences yet, either. It has been reported — here and elsewhere — that the Sultan purchased the $100 million hotel particulier on the Rue de Varenne, next door to the Rodin Museum, which belonged to the Earl of Granard. The estate of the late Earl denies the story, however. “The Rue de Varenne residence continues to be up for sale,” insist the executors. “While certain negotiations are conducted with a number of potential buyers, no contract has been signed.”
