DESIGNING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL: Teresa Heinz Kerry, designer? The candidate’s wife is rarely seen without a scarf wrapped, tied or draped around her neck or shoulders. So it’s only natural that in her first foray into apparel design, she’s created a scarf of her own. Equally unsurprising, it has a campaign motif: red, white and blue and covered with tiny flags, her husband’s initials and “John Kerry for President” in script along the bottom. Teresa Heinz Kerry developed the design with Vineyard Vines, a Greenwich, Conn.-based men’s accessory concern from which the candidate buys ties. Only 100 copies of the 35-inch-square silk scarf were made, in addition to 400 Kerry campaign ties designed by the retailer. The campaign didn’t reveal any financial quid pro quo. “We do not yet have a list of recipients,” said a spokesman. “Teresa and John plan to give some to individuals who have been supporting the campaign.”
