COSTUME BALL: Perhaps Hedi Slimane was channeling a Munster when he decided to come as is, accompanying pal Liz Goldwyn (in a cute antique burlesque costume of a tomato) to Jacqui and Peter Getty‘s annual bash Monday night. He was, after all, the only one to skip the Halloween drag at what’s become the hottest ticket every Oct. 31 — even on a school night. And, in part, it’s because of all the effort put into the fancy dress. “I mean, I’ve been contemplating my costume for a week now,” enthused Heather Graham. Those who also obliged in costume were Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicole Richie with Rachel Zoe Rosenszweig, Rose McGowan, Ione Skye, Anthony Kiedis, China Chow, Johnny Knoxville, Lisa Eisner, Sean Lennon and a very sexy Eva Mendes as a cop. So, too, Jacqui’s family, Sofia Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola. The surprise guest, however, was Paris Hilton. Hilton, dressed in little more than lacy bra and panties, and fluffy pink bunny ears and tail, turned out to be a surprise for the hostess, who’d never met her before: “She was completely a gracious guest,” said Jacqui Getty.
PEARLS OF JADE: Jade Jagger blew into New York to host a luncheon at the New York Garrard headquarters in SoHo on Tuesday. While Claire Bernard, Zani Gugelmann and Petrina Kashoggi nibbled on blini with caviar and lobster salad, Jagger showed off her latest obsession: pearls. In her first collection working with these undersea treasures for the company, she incorporated a mélange of freshwater, cultured, natural baroque and Tahitian pearls with colored stones on pastel strands. Jagger has just relocated from Ibiza to London full-time. “I’m happy to be back,” she said. While she’s on her whirlwind U.S. trip (today she is in Houston), her two daughters, Assisi and Amba, stayed behind, ensconced in their proper British schools.
TALKING JUSTIN: Bloomingdale’s public relations person made it clear that Justin Timberlake‘s appearance at the 59th Street store on Tuesday evening was to celebrate the launch of his new clothing line, William Rast. He wasn’t doing interviews. But when Timberlake arrived, straight from his surprise performance with the Black Eyed Peas at Madison Square Garden, with his friends-business partners Trace Ayala and Danny Guez, as well as Timberlake’s mother, he was instantly surrounded by reporters hoping for a sound byte. Turns out, Timberlake was more than willing to speak.
“I never really thought I would be in fashion, not really,” he said. “But things have a way of coming out of nowhere.”
He admitted that he’s still learning the business, paying more attention to detail in clothing design, but mostly he doesn’t have to do too much of the serious stuff.
“I feel kind of bad for Trace; he has to deal with all the business stuff,” he said, looking at the racks of jeans, T-shirts and jackets from the new collection. “I just get to sit back and design clothes that I like, which is really fun.”
Next up, Timberlake said he will launch a new album, due to hit stores next year.
