The daily Le Figaro kicked off the frenzy during the weekend with a final visit to 5 Avenue Marceau, complete with a photo of Saint Laurent’s white fitting smock “waiting in vain” on a hanger, as the caption read. The French wire agency AFP joined the fray Monday with a slew of dispatches, detailing the severance package for the 158 workers and listing key dates of the couturier’s 44-year fashion career, which ended with a retrospective fashion show last January.
VUITTON’S ACTION TIME: Ticking watch movements won’t be the only noise at Louis Vuitton’s Tambour watch launch Wednesday. The party, which is being held with AmfAR at the new Capitale venue on the Bowery in lower Manhattan, will have dancers jumping out of LV boxes and trapeze artists floating overhead. The music mix will range from DJs Roussia and Danny Krivit to The Four Ko Percussions from Taiwan, African musicians Djembeka, urban percussionists Les Percussions Percutantes and Brazilian musicians forming a Batucada drum group.
