MUSICIANS TURNED DESIGNERS: Rumors of Beyoncé Knowles kicking off a signature label have been swirling for months, but one insider said Friday the first collection is expected to be unveiled this summer.
Widely known for her glamorous styles and designer labels, the Grammy Award winner will tone things down for her design debut. For starters, she and her mother, Tina, will launch sportswear, with eveningwear to bow next year.
They have been busy sketching jeans, skirts and tops, said the source, who declined to name the company that will produce the collection, or whether her beau, Jay-Z, is involved with the project.
“Tina is a designer so she wanted to do this, and Beyoncé wears clothes so well,” the source said. “Beyoncé is very much into fashion. And she’s in the spotlight, so this is a good opportunity.”
In other news, Foxy Brown is said to be at work on a signature fur collection to be introduced this fall.
Also, Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers has launched Mr. Biggs fur collection for men, and a his-and-hers fur line will follow this fall.
