PUTTING THE O IN VALENTINO: A big media star is expected at Valentino’s couture show in Paris tonight: Oprah Winfrey. She’s bringing her camera crew along, too, to get footage for an upcoming segment this fall on the designer. Winfrey has already been filming at Valentino headquarters in Rome, and the designer himself plans to fly to Chicago in early September to do the segment.

DESIGNER BIRTHDAY: His men’s wear show, with its string of Italian actors and soccer aces sitting front and center, just sealed Milan’s fashion carnival and now Giorgio Armani is getting ready to celebrate a different kind of event. Trading stars for family, Armani will mark his 70th birthday on July 11 by shunning a tabloid-friendly, high-gloss party. Instead, the designer will blow out the candles in his sumptuous villa in Broni, a quiet enclave an hour’s drive from Milan. Joining in on the fun will be his nieces, Silvana and Roberta Armani, and his sister, Rosanna.
HURLEY-BURLY: Celebrities are not only dominating the covers of fashion magazines; they’re working inside for them, too. During this week’s couture shows in Paris, front-row regular Elizabeth Hurley will be acting as a guest fashion editor for French fashion glossy Citizen K, which plans to publish a diary of her front-row and backstage experiences in a forthcoming issue.
