THE GRAND UNVEILING: Cartier is already sending out invitations to its Sept. 14 party in Manhattan to unveil its new fine jewelry collection, Caresse d’Orchidées par Cartier. Among those receiving the cards are the 10 finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Cartier said Wednesday it intends to honor the fund at the event by having the group in attendance. Women’s wear finalists, including Derek Lam, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra, Jane Mayle, Natalie Chanin of Project Alabama and Isabel Toledo also will create dresses inspired by the new collection that models will wear with the jewelry at the event. The finalists have received a donation from Cartier to support their emerging businesses.
ON YOUR MARK: Awards season is still a month away with the Sept. 19 airing of the Primetime Emmys, yet stylist Tod Hallman — who has glammed up Portia de Rossi, Amber Tamblyn and Hilary Duff for the red carpet — couldn’t help but point out a few A.B.S. by Allen B. Schwartz cocktail numbers that could hold their own against haute designer versions. “Allen really knows how to translate these looks for the rest of the universe,” Hallman said last week during a party he cohosted with Schwartz (in wine velvet tux jacket, tank top and big diamond studs) at the A.B.S. boutique on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, Calif. A.B.S. partner Armand Marciano was there, as were Hallman Hollywood pals Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon and Bonnie Somerville, the lead in the new Darren Starr-directed Fox fall series “Kitchen Confidential.”
