In addition, both of Bulgari’s New York retail units will donate 2 percent of all sales during the week of May 19-26 to DIFFA. Bulgari’s Miami store will run a similar program in May, the exact week yet to be determined.
The jewelry itself is named after the Sanskrit word for “moon,” and retail prices go from $700 to $30,000.
SILVER LININGS: David Dubin is one of the newest entries in the growing arena of sterling silver jewelry.
The designer will launch a silver line at the Fashion Accessories Expo, May 10-12 at Piers 90 and 92 in New York. The jewelry will wholesale from $20 to $100, and will include necklaces and earrings accented with fake pearls, glass beads and semiprecious stones.
Dubin, based in New York, said the line represents a return for him to his original fine jewelry design roots.
“The difference is that when I designed fine jewelry before, it had a very classical and traditional orientation,” he noted. “The silver I’m doing now takes a more fashion-forward direction.”
A WHOLE NEW BAG: Ghurka, the Norwalk, Conn.-based leather goods company, is launching its full MH Atelier Collection, a handbag, belt, and small leather goods line, at the May market. Some pieces were previewed in March.
Designed by and named after Marly Hodgson, the firm’s president and founder, MH Atelier has a trendier look than its counterpart, the sporty signature Ghurka collection.
There are four materials in the collection — calf, embossed calfskin, a tumbled leather and a cotton jacquard. MH Atelier is manufactured at the Ghurka factory and carries wholesale prices of $80 to $225.
Hodgson projected first-year volume of $1 million.
According to Hodgson, the line will be distributed in better-price department and specialty stores, as well as at Ghurka’s own New York store.
