SILK INROADS: Pacific Silk, a New York ready-to-wear and intimate apparel firm best known for its August Silk sportswear label, is dipping a toe into the accessories pool.

A collection of August Silk knit scarves, caps, gloves and mittens will be launched at next month’s accessories market.

According to Dean Garfinkel, director of the company’s knit division, the accessories are being done mostly as an add-on to the company’s fall and winter silk sweater business. Wholesale prices and first-year volume projections have not yet been determined.

Accessories items will reflect yarns and patterns shown in the sweaters and will include silk, cashmere and various blends done in chenilles, intarsias, jacquards and several other knits.

BALLY’S NEW DIGS: Bally of Switzerland went with a global theme to unveil its New York showroom at 745 Fifth Ave., at East 58th Street, last Tuesday night. In line with the company’s worldwide marketing approach, the party featured an assortment of Swiss, Italian and Japanese cuisines and musical entertainment for 80 guests, including actor and singer Shaun Cassidy and local newscaster Bill Boggs.

The 10,000-square-foot space, which includes a terrace overlooking Fifth Avenue, is now the sales and marketing home for Bally’s entire product range, which is comprised of men’s and women’s accessories and footwear. The firm formerly had an accessories showroom at Fifth Avenue near 32nd Street and a footwear showroom on Madison Avenue and East 49th Street.

According to Bruce Kalish, Bally’s director of accessories, the new neighborhood is more in line with Bally’s prestigious image.

“Many of the best upscale accessories firms have relocated to this neighborhood recently,” Kalish noted.
