WOLFE ON ACCESSORIES: The Accessories Council will hold the first of four sessions of its 2004 Roundtable Discussion Series on Tuesday. David Wolfe, creative director of the Doneger Group, the large New York buying office, will speak to council members about accessories trends for spring and summer 2005. Consumer patterns, manners of dress and lifestyle will also be among the topics Wolfe will address.
LUXURY TRUNKS: It was diamond day at Bergdorf Goodman on Thursday as fine jewelry designers popped by for trunk shows. “Our numbers are private, but we had one of our biggest days ever,” said Robert Burke, vice president and senior fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman. With several designers appearing, the department was buzzing. “Jewelers always play well together,” he joked. “They’re nice to one another.”
Jade Jagger, designer for Garrard, asked, “Is that what you call this, a trunk show? I guess it’s a personal appearance.” The retailer picked up Jagger’s collection about a month ago, around the same time the new Garrard salon at 133 Spring Street in New York opened.
Across the aisle, Temple St. Clair was donating a portion of her sales to the Princess Grace Foundation, which awards grants to young emerging artists in film, dance and theater. “I like to enrich my life with the arts, and I want to carry that into the brand,” said the designer, dressed in her aunt’s Gucci caftan from the Sixties.
Roberto Faraone Mennella and Amedeo Scognamiglio had been showing their Faraone Mennella collection there since last Wednesday. They admitted that when they design, they have one customer in mind. But trunk shows allow the pair to see that they reach a much wider audience. In fact, he said, Aida Turturro from “The Sopranos” stopped by earlier. “She was being really loud, it was great,” Scognamiglio said. “It was a mob scene,” he added — no pun intended.
MORE THINGS: It seems everything these days is moving into New York’s Meatpacking District, and here come 10,000 more.
This summer, jewelry company Ten Thousand Things will open a shop there at 423 West 14th Street.
“It’s the hottest spot in town,” said co-owner David Rees of the trendy district where his neighbors will be the Stella McCartney and La Perla boutiques. “It’s a new Madison Avenue, in a weird way.”
The company will move from its current 700-square-foot location on 19th Street, where it also houses its studio, to the 1,800-square-foot space on 14th Street. Rees plans to include three to four new jewelry designers in the shop as part of the retail expansion.
GOOD CAUSE: Evelyn Lauder and Elizabeth Hurley will raffle off a $25,000 pink diamond brooch designed by Vivid at tonight’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation 10th Anniversary Gala at The Waldorf-Astoria. In addition to showcasing the pink ribbon, which symbolizes breast cancer awareness, the 2.5-carat lotus flower design represents strength and rebirth.
