CHICAGO — Donald J. Franceschini, who in early January was given responsibility for the personal products businesses of Sara Lee Corp., was elected executive vice president and a director of the corporation.

Franceschini, who had been a senior vice president, took over responsibilities for the entire personal products segment after the retirement of Cornelis Boonstra as corporate president.

In other corporate appointments, Keith L. Alm, previously senior vice president of apparel operations in the Pacific Rim, will work with Franceschini in Chicago directing special projects in the U.S. and worldwide.

Joseph E. Heid, president of Sara Lee Foundations, takes over Alm’s responsibilities in the Pacific Rim.

Lew Frankfurt, chief executive officer of Sara Lee Accessories, was named president and chief executive of Intimates (N.A.) & Accessories with responsibilities for brands such as Playtex, Bali, Coach and Aris Isotoner.

Frankfurt and Lucien Nessim, president and chief executive officer of Sara Lee Europe, were also promoted to corporate senior vice presidents.

In other actions, Masami Atarashi, Kirk Beaudin and Chuck Chambers were all appointed corporate vice presidents.

Atarashi is chief executive officer of Nihon Sara Lee K.K., based in Tokyo. Beaudin is chief executive officer of Sara Lee Knit products in charge of Hanes and Hanes Her Way underwear. Chambers is president and chief executive officer of Sara Lee Direct, responsible for direct marketing for the personal products area.
