NEW YORK — It is a truth universally acknowledged that a good resort collection should include plenty of tried-and-true basics. That means such items as streamlined, sporty T-shirts and the perfect bathing suit. This season, Linda Allard is offering great renditions of the classics for Ellen Tracy — a mini trenchcoat, for example, HotPants, a cropped blazer and even a nautical striped top. And if that’s not enough, she’s doing denim, denim and more denim for Company.
Chaiken, meanwhile, aims to serve more eclectic tastes. “It’s Stevie Nicks meets Marina Rust,” says creative director Jeff Mahshie of the line. There are unexpected pairings such as a lean, double-breasted jacket with a hip handkerchief skirt; a demure pink dress that’s slashed in back, or a corset tank matched with a rosette skirt. What could be fresher?
