NOT RESTING: Gemma Ward might be in her second trimester, but that hasn’t put the kibosh on her modeling work.
On Wednesday evening, two weeks after revealing that she and partner David Letts are expecting their second baby, Ward joined the cast of Australian department-store chain David Jones’ spring 2016 runway showcase at Sound Stage 7 in Fox Studios Australia, Sydney — just vacated by Ridley Scott and the cast and crew of “Alien: Covenant.”
Ward is 15 weeks pregnant, and stylists had to scramble to find samples to fit her blossoming Australian size 14, or U.S. size 10, frame, said sources. They settled on three looks for her: a striped caftan by Camilla Franks, a black maxiskirt and embellished off-the-shoulder top by Rachel Gilbert, and a floral smock top and printed leggings by Zimmermann.
The biannual collections launch — which featured 236 looks and 57 Australian and international brands — was the 178-year-old retailer’s second major event in a week, after unveiling its first international store on Thursday, in Wellington, New Zealand. David Jones is now owned by Woolworths Holdings Limited, which is based in South Africa.
Closed by a performance from Australian rock band The Preatures, the spring showcase was attended by 400 guests, including Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Rachel Griffiths, “Vikings” star Alyssa Sutherland, singer Guy Sebastian and David Jones’ department store exclusive designers such as Camilla Franks, Akira Isogawa, Carla Zampatti, Bianca Spender and Nicky and Simone Zimmermann.
The show will be repeated in the same location on Thursday for 500 VIP David Jones customers.
