NEW YORK — Contemporary fashion designer Oliver Christian Herold canceled his runway show slated for today because of medical complications.

Herold was admitted to Beth Israel Hospital here last Wednesday after suffering from severe abdominal pain, the designer told WWD from his hospital bed Monday. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and will have his gallbladder removed in the coming days. Herold, who is 30 years old, said he expects a full recovery.

“I thought I could go on with the show by delegating from my bed,” said Herold, whose business is based here. “I’ve been checked out by various doctors and they have recommended that I don’t do anything right now.”

The show will not be rescheduled, but Herold said he will organize an event for buyers.

“Loose Lips Sink Ships…a Military Nurses Diary,” was to be the theme of Herold’s second runway collection and serve as an homage to war nurses.

“The irony is that the nurses are taking care of me now, instead of me paying tribute to them,” he said.
