KANE JOINS FIT: Alan Kane has been named dean of the School of Business & Technology at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. He continues as head of retailing at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, and as a professor there. Kane started the retailing program at Columbia in 1997 after a 28-year retail career. On Oct. 27, FIT will name the School of Business & Technology in honor of Kohl’s Corp.’s department store president Jay Baker and his wife, Patty, who made a $10 million gift to the school in 2001. This gift, which funds scholarships and FIT’s capital expansion projects, is the largest single contribution in FIT history.
