NARCISO’S GRADE A: Narciso Rodriguez will receive the 2007 Pratt Institute Fashion Icon Award during the school’s annual fashion show May 9. Afterward, Pratt president Thomas F. Schutte will host a private party in honor of the designer, who is following in Diane von Furstenberg’s footsteps as the second recipient of the honor. Born in New Jersey to Cuban parents, Rodriguez went on to practice fashion design in New York but earned his stripes before going out on his own in 1998. He freelanced and worked for such firms as Anne Klein under Donna Karan and later designed women’s apparel at Calvin Klein. In 1995, he became design director of the women’s and men’s collections for the label Tse while simultaneously reviving interest in the Cerutti label.

HOOP STARS: Adidas will be the presenting partner of NBA All-Star Jam Session, the league’s interactive 400,000-square-foot basketball theme park open Feb. 15 to 19 during NBA All-Star 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino South Convention Center in Las Vegas. Activities will include an interactive Adidas Team Information Center and an exclusive Adidas basketball court themed around the company’s “Believe in 5IVE” campaign. There also will be a 10,000-square-foot NBA Store where Adidas will occupy approximately 1,500 square feet.

TURKISH FAIR SET: The Turkish Shoe & Leatherwear Fair, featuring exhibitors from Turkey’s footwear, accessories, outerwear and tanning industries, kicks off a three-day run today at the Grand Hyatt Empire Ballroom in Manhattan. The fair is sponsored by the Turkish Leather Council, which was founded in 2005 with the aim of promoting Turkish leather to domestic and foreign markets.
