PENBERTHY TO LORO PIANA: Elizabeth Penberthy has joined Loro Piana as senior vice president of its wholesale division. She is based in New York and reports to Pier Guerci, president. With more than 15 years of experience in sales, Penberthy was most recently divisional vice president of international sales for Coach. Penberthy heads up the sales team, a responsibility formerly handled by Sandra Verbeck, who remains with the company as vice president of the luxury goods division. Penberthy said her two priorities are to “further strengthen the existing business with Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and other high-end specialty stores and [to build] a high-performance team.”

CATALANO JOINS EASEL: Richard Catalano, an apparel industry veteran, has been named president of Easel, Cloth by Easel and Knitastiks by Easel. Most recently, Catalano was president of Loveletters Inc., a Los Angeles-based loungewear-sleepwear line, for a year and a half. Loveletters has retained Catalano as a consultant. Earlier, he held management posts at Vakko, Steve Madden Sportswear and Jeans and Finity, and before that was president and chief executive officer of Episode USA, and ceo and partner at Adrienne Vittadini, where he worked 10 years. He began his career at Evan-Picone. Catalano, who reports to Neil Weiss, chairman, will be responsible for Easel brands and Knitastiks private label programs. Easel is a contemporary knitted sportswear collection that features novelty sweaters and fabrics. Cloth by Easel is a recently launched collection of contemporary tops and novelty Ts.

In other moves, Barrie Taylor has joined Easel and Cloth by Easel as sales manager, a post previously held by Elaine Goldthwaite, who was promoted to sales manager for Knitastiks private label. Previously, Taylor was senior account executive at the Bella Dahl/Jolna Design Group. Both will report to Catalano.
