The International Woolmark Prize USA has revealed its judges for the regional final that takes place July 19 in New York.
The USA regional final judging panel includes André Leon Talley, author, editor and consultant; Dao-Yi Chow, founder, Public School and artistic director, DKNY; Jason Wu, founder and creative director of Jason Wu and artistic director, Hugo Boss; Julie Gilhart, fashion consultant; Laura Brown, executive editor, Harper’s Bazaar; Malcolm Carfrae, founder, Carfrae Consulting; Marc Karimzadeh, editorial and communications director, Council of Fashion Designers of America; Maxwell Osborne, founder, Public School and creative director, DKNY; Michelle Lee, head of Americas, The Woolmark Co.; Nick Sullivan, fashion director, Esquire; Robbie Myers, editor in chief, Elle; Stefano Tonchi, editor in chief, W magazine; and Steven Kolb, chief executive officer, CFDA.
Six regional awards will take place in Hong Kong, Sydney, London, Milan, Mumbai and New York. One men’s wear and one women’s wear finalist will be selected from each region and will receive 50,000 Australian dollars, or $36,856.8 at the current exchange rate toward their next collection, as well as an opportunity to participate in the international finals.
Stuart McCullough, managing director of The Woolmark Co., said there are more than 75 designers from 62 countries participating, which is the biggest one yet. “The award continues to highlight the most innovative and modern interpretations of Australian wool at the hands of the world’s most promising design talents,” he said.
The winners of the men’s wear and women’s wear global finals will each receive a further 100,000 Australian dollars or $73,7256.8 at the current exchange rate to assist with fabric sourcing and marketing of their collection and mentoring from industry experts. In addition, both the men’s wear and women’s wear winner will have the opportunity to have their collections distributed through Harvey Nichols in the U.K., David Jones in Australia, Boutique 1 in the United Arab Emirates, Verso in Belgium, Leclaireur in Paris, Boon the Shop in South Korea, The Papillion in Indonesia and online through mytheresa.com (women’s wear) and Matchesfashion.com (men’s wear).
