There was a lot to tweet about in Kilian Kerner’s fall show, where bird motifs made a constant appearance in his women’s and men’s looks. The designer is a mid-market player in Germany’s designer scene, addressing a young, trend-aware but not necessarily trend-setting crowd.
Kerner was wise to work in simple, classic shapes, as the large-scale colorblocking, big, bird-shaped insets, textural decoupage effects and poodle trims benefited from quiet silhouettes. Such clean shapes will likely feel fresh to clients who are tired of the rumpled streetwear that has saturated the mid-market trend cycles for a few seasons. With a new backer and business managers in place, Kerner’s business could be poised for growth.
