“Italians do it better” was the tag line of Elisabeth Schwaiger’s Laurèl show, which was inspired by what Sophia Loren would have packed for a trip to Portofino. The sequined high-waisted shorts with matching bralet tops skewed a bit young, but the “Dolce Vita” dresses with fitted bodices, trim waists and A-line skirts were flattering, and came in rich floral patterns and scarlet and turquoise gingham. Schwaiger dropped in another reference to Sixties Italy with well-cut black capri pants topped with a champagne silk blouse. Bouclé coats with three-quarter-length sleeves and oversize scarlet and white lapels were another highlight.
