The Lavelle & Co. mentoring group is mobilizing the fashion industry to help one of its own. From being orphaned on the streets of Seoul, Shin Ae has overcome extraordinary adversity to become an accomplished welder/artist, teacher and vintage motorcycle enthusiast, and is now battling stage four metastatic breast cancer.
To celebrate Shin Ae’s journey through foster homes and across borders, and to help her meet medical costs, Lavelle & Co. is organizing a benefit Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Totem branding company, 121 Varick Street, in conjunction with Dune Studio. “She has so many amazing stories,” said Lavelle Olexa, the organization’s founder. “She’s gifted and determined and has emerged from multiple challenges as a strong and successful individual.” Yeohlee Teng is dressing Shin Ae for the event and others on board are Nicole Miller, Kay Unger, Jennette Chang, Fern Mallis, Lauren Anderson and Jill Iscol.
