- BETSEY SOCKS: It’s shaping up to be a busy year for Betsey Johnson.
After signing licensing deals for footwear and lingerie, the designer will launch a legwear collection for fall. New York-based Solo Licensing/Leg Watch will manufacture and market the line, which will include tights, thigh-highs, legwarmers and fashion and trouser socks.
David London, Solo Licensing/Leg Watch’s president, said the company plans to have first samples ready in time for Johnson’s fall runway presentation next month. The collection officially will be shown to retailers during the fall legwear market in March. It is expected to feature up to 40 styles and will be offered in special packaging showcasing a picture of the designer.
Distribution is aimed at Betsey Johnson boutiques, of which there are 43; department and specialty stores, and catalogues, and is expected to hit retail by the end of June. Prices and sales projections have not been set.
Johnson recently inked licensing deals for footwear with C.C. Calzature Ltd. and lingerie with Carole Hochman Designs.
