NEW YORK — Services for Leonard Bronstein, 78, a former executive of Independent Retailers Syndicate, a resident buying office no longer in operation, were held Friday.

Bronstein died Tuesday in New York University Hospital of cancer, according to a friend, Morris Marmalstein, president of the Warren Group, a dress manufacturer.

Bronstein had been with IRS for 35 years, starting in 1951 as merchandise manager of the dress division. Throughout his career, he held other key posts including president of unit-control services. He retired from the firm in 1986 as senior vice president.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; two sons, Steven and Robert; a sister, Rhoda Yellen, and six grandchildren.
