NEW YORK — Take the easy way out. After all, the best clothes for resort keep fuss to a minimum. A handful of designers here are simplifying things even further, using crisp black and white shades on their own or together. At Chaiken, designer Jeff Mahshie throws a curve at the classics, and the results are such looks as a tiered leather camisole, glazed cotton trench and slashed halter dress. Edward Wilkerson, designer of Lafayette 148, was inspired by his travels to Kenya and Zululand this season, and it shows in the draped, twisted and tied effects on little bra tops, T-shirts and dresses. Meanwhile, Dana Buchman has gone scissor happy in a fun way, from body-conscious tops with cut-off sleeves and geometric cut-outs to eyelet pants.— Agnes Cammock
