Madewell’s casual tomboy charm went in an even more masculine direction for fall. Kin Ying Lee, head of design, said the idea was “Madewell goes to work” with a focus on men’s wear-inspired trousers, blazers and cardigans styled with suspenders and brogues. There was robust outerwear such as a blanket wool poncho and a Penfield jacket, wool cargo pants, sweatshirt knits and shirtdresses anchored in classic navy and burgundy yet with a flash of color — orange or yellow — here and there. As for Madewell’s novelty stock, dip-dyed stripe T-shirts by Le Minor of Montauk and Doc Martens are in the mix for fall.
