LOS ANGELES — MAGIC International is boosting its bling quotient.

The apparel trade show organizer, known for its biannual MAGIC Marketplace events at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is expanding its women’s accessories profile with the launch of WWDMAGIC presents Accessories at the Las Vegas Hilton. The segment will make its debut during the spring showcase running Aug. 29-Sept. 1.

MAGIC has also partnered with the JCK Show, the leading event for the jewelry market and produced by Reed Exhibitions. MAGIC hopes to tap into JCK’s expertise to reach jewelry vendors to fill out the new JCK Pavilion also exhibiting at the Hilton.

“Since August 2003, the number of buyers shopping for accessories has increased more than 20 percent and we wanted to give them access to more resources,” said Camille Candella, director of marketing for MAGIC Marketplace.

Candella said about 500 exhibitors of handbags, belts, scarves and hats are expected for the August event, including Donald J Pliner Handbags, Kipling and Viewmark USA Inc.

JCK officials said they expect about 80 vendors in their pavilion, including Just Jules, Paul Klecka and Breuning, and hope to introduce them to new business.

MAGIC signed a long-term lease for Hilton’s ballroom, pavilion and center last year, adding a potential 105,000 square feet of space to the overall event. MAGIC officials didn’t utilize the Hilton during the February show. The Hilton is adjacent to the convention center and connected by a walkway. But some accessories exhibitors are concerned that retailers shopping the main convention floors of the MAGIC Marketplace may not make the effort to visit the Hilton.
