MENDEL AT MANHASSET: Ready-to-Wear and fur design house J. Mendel is opening a 500-square-foot shop inside Hirshleifer’s, the high-end retailer at the Americana Manhasset shopping center on Long Island.
The firm has another shop inside Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan, as well as its own freestanding stores in Paris, New York and Aspen. J. Mendel’s new neighbors in Hirshleifer’s include Chanel on one side and Dolce & Gabbana on the other. The shop will open in September.
Gilles Mendel, who designs the collection, will continue working on the shop design with architect David Mann of MR Architecture + Decor, who also designed the company’s Aspen store that opened around Christmas. The design plays on the contrast between the rawness of contemporary materials such as steel and the luxuriousness of fur.
DIRECT TO BONAPARTE: Bridal design firm Bonaparte-NY, designed by Junko Yoshioka, has opened its first bridal salon at the company’s 1133 Broadway studio in Manhattan. Known for her asymmetric cuts and novel silhouettes, Yoshioka spent five years in Milan designing for companies such as Max Mara and Anteprima before launching her bridal collection last year. The salon is by appointment only and carries styles starting at $1,800.
