OUT ON THE TOWN: Tracy & Michael, the Houston-based daytime dress company, will introduce a 28-piece holiday eveningwear line under a new label, Atelier Tracy & Michael. The firm will skip the fall season for its daytime dress collection and plans to pick it up again in the spring.
Michael Smith said he and his partner, Tracy Huffor, developed the higher-end eveningwear at the request of Neiman Marcus. “We really designed this almost like a red-carpet collection, especially the satin pieces,” Smith said.
Atelier Tracy & Michael wholesales from $275 to $550, compared with its daytime dresses, which wholesale at between $150 and $206. The eveningwear includes a silk, wool and viscose houndstooth suit with a pencil skirt and a three-quarter sleeve jacket; a French duchess satin cocktail dress with a full box-pleat skirt and a 6-yard petticoat, and a halter satin gown with a slim skirt and train.
For spring 2005, Tracy & Michael plans to add a third label of gowns retailing for between $1,000 and $1,500.
Smith declined to project sales but said he expects to triple volume this year. The company sells to about 40 boutiques, as well as Neiman’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.
