The nearly 1,400-square-foot boutique, designed by architect Allen Wix and designer Michelle K, features a hand-painted tile floor in the designer’s signature turquoise color, a trio of crystal chandeliers inspired by a set in an Italian gallery, mosaic tables in turquoise and brown and Moroccan chairs inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Thirsty shoppers can have water and wine in the store’s lounge area, which is detailed with brown-antiqued leather sofas and coordinating Moroccan coffee tables.
“My shoe designs are reflective of my travels to Paris, London, Milan, Manhattan and many other fashionable cities around the world, but as a Los Angeles-based designer, there is still a trendy West Coast feel to my footwear,” Michelle K said. “This is my home, this is where I shop when I’m in town and this is where my first store should be.”
In celebration of her first store, Michelle K has asked several celebrities to embellish pairs of shoes, which will debut at a grand opening party on Nov. 19. The decorated and designed Michelle K shoes will then be auctioned with the proceeds going to the charity of each celebrity’s choice. To date, celebrities who have agreed to design shoes are Courteney Cox-Arquette, Sarah Wynter, Karolina Kurkova, Joy Bryant and Mariah Carey.
As reported, Michelle K recently signed a licensing deal for Michelle K-branded apparel with L’Koral Industries, maker of Seven For All Mankind. Selections from the line, which launches in fall 2004, will be available at the Michelle K boutique.
