Luisa Bianchin has a knack for performing under pressure and that’s a good thing considering the gap-toothed redhead’s very first show was opening Marc Jacobs’ spring 2011 collection at New York Fashion Week. “I just wanted it to be perfect,” she says. Since signing with DNA last summer, the 19-year-old has walked for Jacobs (twice), Yigal Azrouël, Victoria Beckham, Giles Deacon, Marchesa, Isaac Mizrahi, Vena Cava and scored a Vogue editorial with Mario Testino. We sat down with the Berlin native to talk fashion week, Lady Gaga and her pre-show beauty regimen.

When did you first come to New York?
Last August, right before fashion week. I got ready and then September was my first season.

How did you prepare?
Get a lot of sleep. I’ll put a ton of conditioner on my hair in the shower since they will be tugging it every which way. I also take care of my skin by putting a lot of moisturizing cream on my face before bed.

What was your first fashion week like?
I loved it. I had never done a show before and I came to New York, and I had my first castings, my first fittings. It was all new and amazing. I loved the energy of it. I’m not the kind of person who likes to be bored and wait around. I like running around. I love the craziness of it.

Were you nervous?
The thing is I had some catwalk lessons beforehand. And then after that I felt ready. I had my first sitting and then they booked me for my first show.

What was it like opening for Marc Jacobs?
He is such a big client for any model. So when my agency called me and was like, you got it, I was already, like, in disbelief. Then the next day when I was there, we had a rehearsal 30 minutes before and I saw I was the first girl on the lineup on the table. Like every model gets a number and the Marc Jacobs woman was like, you have number one. I was like, “No, you can’t be serious.” After that, I was so nervous. I was just sitting and thinking, “Be cool. If you do well, after this maybe everything will change.”

Did you get to talk to him?
Yeah, I saw him in the fitting. At the time I loved Lady Gaga and he plays a lot of her songs. So I was listening to her on my iPod and humming so we started talking about her. He was saying how he was on the cover of V magazine with her. I was like, “Wow, I haven’t see it.” Then he went and got me a copy as like a present.

What was the most surprising thing about fashion week?
I knew beforehand it would be stressful and crazy but I didn’t know you get so many friends through it. My best friends now are all models I met in fashion week. Every place you go, you see all the same models. It’s like a big trip with all your friends. You see them in the line and you hang out. It’s like a big party.
