Juxtaposition junkies Mongrels in Common took inspiration from Stevie Wonder and the unusual natural landscapes of Iceland. The design team went tactile, choosing gilded lace insets and underskirts on dresses to evoke Iceland’s moss and lichens. Wet-look satin and silk flowed like water, while textured microfiber evoked lava rock. Dresses and coats in black were anything but basic. Touches of midnight, royal and navy printed with photo-images of a sulfur spring in impressionistic tones of soft grey, blue and yellow. Short skirts were stiff, full, and flared. Jackets were uniformly inspired in a masculine direction — military, baseball and tuxedo — and paired with feminine slim cropped pants and satiny wide-legged trousers. Peats, tucks and folds decorated dresses, adding a lighter touch to the dark line.
