PARIS — It’s known as l’heure bleu. For pre-fall, Karl Lagerfeld chose the moment when day turns to night as the ideal time to dress his Chanel customer, and the line defined a new hour for alluring, sexy looks. Using the expertise of the house’s couture ateliers for ready-to-wear, he glammed up sporty fishermen’s sweaters with embedded crystals and even set Lesage loose to embroider and bead the borders of tassel-trimmed scarves. There were plenty of knee-length skirts and dresses, too, with a similar mix of dressed-up and dressed-down elements. The message: Bring on the night.
