NEW YORK — Martin “Sonny” Schlossberg, a dress manufacturer whose career spanned more than 40 years, died Oct. 6 at 74.
According to the family, the cause of death was cardiac arrest.
Schlossberg owned and operated several dress firms here, including Yorktown, Impact Jrs., Mollie & Me and Glenrob, from the Sixties through the Eighties.
In 1992, Schlossberg, along with his wife, Estelle, entered the retail arena and opened Estelle’s Dresses, a women’s mega specialty store in Farmingdale, N.Y.
“My father had all of the know-how and he was a shrewd businessman to recognize there was a need for a huge dress warehouse store on Long Island,” said his son Craig. “The business grew very quickly.’’
Estelle Schlossberg oversees day-to-day operations at Estelle’s. Craig serves as a computer consultant for the stores and another son, Glenn, who is president and owner of Jump Apparel Group, is a fashion merchandising consultant at Estelle’s.
In addition to his wife and sons, survivors include a daughter, Robin Mayer, who oversees finance at Estelle’s; a sister, Anita August, and five grandchildren.
