NEW YORK – Bravo’s “Project Runway” season ended with a bang last week when favorites Daniel Vosovic and Santino Rice lost to Chloe Dao after each presented their runway collections during fashion week in New York.
WWD caught up with each of the final three designers to find out their plans and see what really went on behind the scenes – and the seams.
“Doing the show was much harder than I thought it would be,” said Dao, who is in New York this week to do the Elle photo shoot which was part of her winning package. The Houston native and FIT graduate has a solid career in the industry, having worked with some New York designers, at various showrooms and as a buyer before opening her own store in Houston.
“We were doing challenges every day and getting up early. The final challenge at the end was a total surprise,” admitted Dao.
As the winner, Dao receives $100,000 to start her own line, as well as a Saturn and a mentorship from the Banana Republic design team. She told WWD she plans to produce more couture lines for her own store, and introduce higher-price point items. Dao said she is eventually looking to wholesale her collection.
