NEW YORK — Sean John, which will open its first store on Fifth Avenue and 41st Street this summer, has partnered with design firm Yabu Pushelberg to create the look of the flagship.
“Yabu Pushelberg is working directly with the retail team at Sean John to develop a sleek and clean retail application that is focused on both creativity and commerce,” said Charles Soriano, director of retail for Sean John. “We chose Yabu Pushelberg because of their tremendous knowledge base and their holistic approach to designing exquisitely branded interiors.”
Yabu Pushelberg was established in 1980 by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, the firm’s creative director and managing partner, respectively. The firm has built its reputation on providing design and marketing solutions for Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman and the Four Seasons Hotel Group, among many others.
“This store will be completely original. Sean John is clothes, music, entertainment and it’s a way of life. We’re introducing ‘fashiontainment’ to the world,” said Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, founder and president of Sean John, in a statement. “This is the first spoke in the wheel of the Sean John retail empire. We want to take a new approach to the retail concept. Choosing Yabu Pushelberg was a natural decision to assist us in expressing the Sean John way of life to consumers.”
Sean John, which plans a major roll-out of retail stores, earlier this year signed leases for 3,500-square-foot stores at Beverly Center in Los Angeles and the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, N.J. A Sean John spokesman said an agreement with Yabu Pushelberg to design future Sean John stores has not been signed at this point.
