NEW YORK — Italian watchmaker Sector Group has landed again on U.S. shores.
Last week the firm opened its 3,200-square-foot headquarters at 362 Fifth Avenue here. It will display the watch labels Sector and PZero line for Pirelli, as well as the licenses Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Just Cavalli, Moschino, United Colors of Benetton and Sisley.
Opera, backed by Bulgari, took control of the group in July 2001, and the company has since been building its portfolio of brands.
“We are looking to enter the American market since we took over the company in July 2001,” said Enrico Ceccato, chairman and chief executive officer of Sector Group, in town last week with vice president of marketing and art director Franco Bosiso.
The company already had a subsidiary here in the mid-Nineties.
The showroom, which takes up 2,000 square feet, has an uncluttered and airy feel, and each brand has its own display.
In the mid-Nineties, Sector reached U.S. sales of $50 million, “so we believe the potential is big,” he said. “We want to go step by step; we think we first need to position each brand and product in the right way.”
Sector forecast worldwide sales for 2003 of about $117 million.
The distribution plan targets department and specialty stores nationwide, though each brand will have its own strategy.
“The potential is big,” he said. “Three to five years from now, we have to reach a critical mass of $15 to 20 million.”
