MISS SPEEDO U.S.A.: Now that the Olympics are over, Speedo is looking to outfit an entirely different class of competitor with its new sponsorship of the Miss America Pageant. As part of the two-year deal, the contestants will parade before the judges in either a one-piece or two-piece suit of their choice from the new Speedo Sport collection when the pageant is broadcast live Sunday night on ABC. It will mark the first time that contestants aren’t able to wear the suit of their choice in the swimsuit competition. The Sport collection is a fitting choice since it is designed using a proprietary fabric called SpeedoSculpture that “sculpts, supports and defines the body,” Speedo executives said. Contestants also will be wearing suits from the Speedo Beach collection in production numbers during the preliminaries and finals. For those at home who want to look like the stately beauties — or at least dress like them — the Speedo Sport line will be available at stores starting in November.
