In this season of long shorts and casually dressed up men’s wear, some of the best did indeed come last. Goetze’s wardrobe staples had an individual polish and a touch of juvenile whimsy. One case in point: The gray cotton shirt with a buttoned tab to hold a narrow, light gray knit tie in place, worn with matching tailored gray knit shorts accented with a tiny ticket pocket, plus a pint-sized leather knapsack whose straps visually doubled for suspenders. A proponent of clean lines, Goetze’s baseball jackets and short coats — especially covetable in a lightly quilted black cotton pique — are almost surgically precise, as are woven Henley T-shirts of the finest cotton poplin. She also featured some clever doubling up, with sleeve details that look like a T-shirt has been layered over a long sleeve top.
