SPEEDY RECOVERY: The Avon Foundation has teamed up with New York Yankees manager Joe Torre for an event to raise funds to stop domestic violence. Torre, whose mother, Margaret, was a victim of domestic violence, will serve as honorary team captain for the event called Need for Speed Relay Against Domestic Violence. His organization, Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, will receive the Avon Foundation’s initial grant from funds raised in the race, scheduled to take place June 11, in Westchester County, N.Y. The relay will cover a 60-mile, nine-leg course from Bear Mountain Bridge to New Rochelle, N.Y.

L’OREAL MOVES: Jean-Louis Dumas, the former chief executive officer of Hermès, has decided not to request the renewal of his tenure on L’Oréal’s board, the company said in a statement Thursday. “The board expressed its gratitude for his involvement in the work of the board and the quality of his contribution,” L’Oréal said in the statement, which was published in the run-up to the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting April 25. At that time, the board will propose Jean-Paul Agon as the company’s next ceo starting in April, replacing Lindsay Owen-Jones, who would then become L’Oréal’s director.

Additionally, L’Oréal-owned Lancôme has appointed Myriam Ichbiah marketing manager for travel retail in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She replaces Diana Balitrand, who has left the company. Ichbiah has held several positions at L’Oréal — within Lancôme and Helena Rubenstein. She also worked as marketing manager and prospective corporate marketing manager for Cacharel International.

THEATER LOVER: Smashbox Cosmetics will sponsor a four-week run of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at The Roxy in Los Angeles, beginning March 26. The new stage interpretation of the 2001 musical will star Donovan Leitch as Hedwig, the rock band front woman who prior to her sex change operation was known as Hansel, and Bijou Philips as Yitzak, Hedwig’s backup singer. Smashbox Cosmetics will also provide the makeup for the cast.

IFF PROMOTION: International Flavors & Fragrances has promoted Bertrand Lemont to vice president and global account manager overseeing all the fragrance supplier’s Estée Lauder Cos. business. Lemont, a 12-year veteran of the fragrance industry, joined the sales department of IFF France six years ago. In 2002, he moved to the firm’s fine fragrance sales unit in New York.

: After a 28-year relationship as East Coast distributor for Guinot Paris, Lachman Imports is now the national distributor for the French professional spa treatment and skin care company. Lachman Imports projects sales growth of 15 percent this year.
